Our Occupational Therapy Services
Play and Functional Skills
Play is an important part of childhood development. Occupational therapy supports children to participate in play while developing practical and functional abilities. Activities are selected according to each child’s age, abilities and rehabilitation needs. Through structured play, children can practise reaching, grasping, handling objects, coordination and purposeful movement. Play also creates opportunities to develop attention, problem-solving and participation skills. Therapists encourage children to engage in activities that are both enjoyable and therapeutic. By combining play with rehabilitation, occupational therapy helps children develop skills they can use at home, at school and in other everyday environments.
Social Interaction and Participation
Occupational therapy supports children in developing the skills needed to interact and participate in everyday activities. Children are encouraged to engage with therapists, caregivers and other children through structured and meaningful activities. Therapy can involve turn-taking, following instructions, sharing materials and participating in group activities. These experiences help children build confidence and become more comfortable interacting with others. Social participation is also closely linked to independence. As children develop functional skills for feeding, playing and other daily activities, they gain more opportunities to participate in family, school and community life.
Fine Motor and Functional Skills
Occupational therapy helps children develop functional hand skills needed for everyday activities. Some children experience difficulties with grasping, releasing, reaching, manipulating objects or coordinating both hands. Therapy uses purposeful activities to help children practise these abilities. Skills developed through therapy can support feeding, playing, learning and self-care. Children may work with age-appropriate objects and activities designed to encourage controlled hand movements and coordination. Improving functional hand use gives children greater opportunities to participate independently in everyday tasks. It also supports their involvement in learning activities and play at home, school and within the community.
